Music for Belly Dance

 Hi Everyone,

As a musician that often performs with or for belly dancers, I thought I'd post to the dance party community to see what people are listening to and what they prefer music-wise.  This should really apply across the board to all lovers of dance, not just belly dance.

Of course there are a number of divergent styles of dance and quite a lot of different musical tastes out there.  But I ask because though my current project Azphodel has focused on Tribal Fusion (somewhat), I aim to take that project in a different direction but will continue to delve deeper into the tribal fusion and world fusion dance movements with other projects.

Also, as a player of several traditional Near Eastern instruments (mainly Turkish yaylı tanbur and Turkish mey), a lot of my focus currently is on instrument technique and Turkish art and folk music.  I also play a selection of Arabic, Bulgarian, Greek and other music other than Turkish.  Any dancers out there that love the traditional (or a fresh new take on traditional) stuff that have input, please chime in!!

Thanks everyone,

~Zane Lazos

Help with dance resume?

Hi! I'm Ben, new to the community. I have a question for you all. I have an audition coming up with Do Jump! Extremely Physical Theater. I have never done a serious dance audition before. My question is about my resume. I don't know how to make a dance resume! What information needs to be on there that is different from a standard resume, and what info does not need to be there? Are there any resources online or elsewhere that would help or provide info? Do I need a head-shot or other photo? If I don't have a lot of experience, what is the best way to present it on my resume? Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you!

Hello everybody!

My name is Manuela and I've just joined this group :)
I confess I'm quite sorry to start my community life with a cross post :S but I really need your help!
The reason is that besides loving music and dance, besides practising ballet, I'm also a student, and at the moment I'm writing my master thesis about dance ;)

I need the opinion of dance professionals (students, teachers, dancers, choreographers, etc.) to write a specific chapter of my thesis, but I haven't collected many opinions so far O_o
So, I would really appreciate it, if you could take a look at this questionnaireCollapse )
and reply to the questions! You'd give me a huge help with my thesis!!

I should focus on contemporary dance in Spain in particular, so in case there are some dancers of choreographers from Spain, it would be great. Yet, I would love to hear your opinion even if you come from other countries!

Thank you very much in advance! :)
